Why OM is considered the
“Most Powerful Mantra”?
According to Mandukya Upanishad, there are 4 states of consciousness:-
1. Awake state
2. Dream state
3. Deep sleep state
4. State of pure consciousness
The state of pure consciousness is the most difficult to achieve and if/when achieved, it can truly unfold our inner powers.
It is believed that regular chanting of OM can help us achieve this state of pure consciousness.
The symbol of OM, actually depicts this great power of it to achieve the state of pure consciousness.
Let us also understand this unique symbol of OM that is also now considered as a symbol for spirituality worldwide.
OM symbol is made up of 3 curves, one dot and a crescent:-
v Bottom curve represents the waking state
v Middle curve represents the dream state
v Upper curve represents the deep sleep state
v Dot represents the state of pure consciousness, and
v Crescent shape in between dot and the 3 curves, represents illusions and worldly pleasures, which are obstacles in achieving the state of pure consciousness.
When we chant OM, we try and achieve this fourth state of pure consciousness or bliss.
